would like my pictures to look as if a human being had passed between them, like a snail, leaving a trail of the human presence and memory trace of past events as the snail leaves itís slime.í Francis bacon (1910-1992)
n the same way that Bacon satirised contemporary types with an eye for the timelessly disgusting, Zilicís paintings eloquently highlight the repulsiveness in human shape and posture in ambiguous space-frames.
nitially, the strength of the composition and the seemingly grotesque imagery, give the impression that his art may be harsh to withstand in everyday life. But the intensity of colour made particularly vibrant by nocturnal backgrounds and the violence of the image, create in the viewer a mixture of admiration and shock which characterises an authentic aesthetic act. Exhibiting and in prominent private collections across the world, Zilicís paintings depict a heroic movement and a sense of an epic struggle.
