Across this vast and creatively wide collection of paintings, Peter Heuscher demonstrates a skilful artistic hand and broad imagination. By covering a multitude of subject matters and styles, the artist demonstrates his deep talent and shows an ability to work outside of his preferred style.
Having moved from his native Switzerland to Australia, he uses the varying landscapes as inspiration in a number of paintings. This prize winning artist is equally at home creating close studies of a flower in bloom as he is painting vast, imaginative abstract works that only hint at their subject of inspiration. Heuscher is inspired both by the places and landscapes he has seen and the very notion of movement. Some works suggest a rocky river, while other alludes to the abstract concept of energy and passion.
His series of paintings of flowers show that he is a very capable realist painter. Each detail of the petal and the stigma is captured with a knowing hand and minute detail. The leaves appear to have a shine to them as the colour of their flesh reflects the afternoon sunlight. This series is highly collectable, with some buyers wanting to purchase many versions to decorate their room. He brilliantly captures the symbolic beauty of flowers in our world, whether as a symbol of love or invocative of a delicate tenderness.
When painting landscapes he is quick to use expressive colour schemes and to twist the details of the scene for greater artistic effect. Here we see a painter who looks to capture the innate essence of a scene or place, rather than merely reproduce its physical appearance. Having already sold many paintings through LondonArt, we hope to introduce him to a wider audience by naming him as our artist of the week.
