Born in 1959, Martin Thompson studied at Camberwell School of Art and took his MA in photography at the Royal College of Art. Working as as professional photographer he was perfectly placed for the digital photography revolution and, liberated from the darkroom, began to push the boundaries beyond the limits of traditional photography. His subjects are dismantled, manipulated and reconstructed. Elements are added, others are taken away. Unseen vistas are revealed, imaginary scenarios are created. Images become jigsaws in which the shape, size and colour of all the pieces can change.
The finished prints are rich in colour and detail. They are printed large on cotton canvas using natural pigment and mineral based Ultrachrome inks, guaranteed lightfast for several generations.
