Vikky Furse - Commission a portrait

Vikky Furse

Vikky Furse has been undertaking portrait commissions for the past seven years and has exhibited them in the Westminster and the Mall Galleries, in London and Gordonstoun School in Scotland.

As a figurative artist working, in acrylic on canvas, oil-and dry-pastel, charcoal, and other media on paper, Vikky's confident approach and affable temperament is unquestionably suited to the genre.

Vikky has developed a comprehensive approach to portraiture. Her painterly style is perfectly matched to expressing and capturing the mood, emotion and personality of the sitter. Sir Donald Sinden recently commissioned her to paint his grand daughter, Bridie.

Vikky will discuss the project with the client, and depending on your requirements, she will support and advise you throughout the whole process.

The medium and size of the final portrait will depend on the nature of the project and will be decided with the client.

She prefers to work from life, with 3 - 4 sittings lasting about 2 hours each. On the first sitting she likes to make a number of quick charcoal or pastel sketches, often rough and vigorous. The final portrait emerges in the following sittings.

The portrait will take about 2 -6 weeks depending on the nature of the commission.

She is happy for you to come to her studio, or to visit you in situ. She can also arrange a neutral meeting point if necessary.

Although she prefers to largely complete the painting from life, she often combines sketches made at one sitting with a selection of family photos.

If sittings are not possible Vikky Furse will work solely from photographs, provided by the client.

…"I like a selection from the client, preferably lots of amateur photos taken by family members or friends. The connection between artist and sitter is very much part of the end product, so I like to talk with you about the photos."

Vikky has built up a good relationship with a professional framer and is happy to advise you or arrange the framing of the work should you require.

Her prices usually start at £750 for a single head and shoulders composition, measuring approximately 56 x 76cm.

For a double portrait of the same measurements, the price will range from £1200 to £1400

A group composition would start at around £1400.

Vikky is also happy to work on a larger scale, to suit your requirements.
