Amy Bernays - Commission a portrait
Amy Bernays

Amy Bernays has been painting portraits for over 10 years and has exhibited at the Mall Galleries, in London, as well as galleries in Edinburgh, Los Angeles, and North Carolina.

Working in acrylic and oil on canvas, pencil, oil pastel, charcoal, and other media on paper, Amy’s bold approach, bright pallet, and uncanny likeness make a modern statement. Amy’s portraits are remarkable for their physiological presents as well as the vibrancy of colour.

Amy’s method of portraiture starts with an in-depth conversation with the commissioner about their goals and dreams for the project, followed by preliminary sketches in various media on paper and culminating with a work on canvas. She provides support and advice to the client at every step. Believing a commission is collaboration between the artist and the client, Amy coaxes the sitter’s character and creativity onto the canvas.

British born, Amy is currently based in the US. Some portrait commissions wait for the two return trips a year that she makes for in-person sketching and consultations. If this is not possible, a brief tutorial and a digital camera make a good substitute.

Prices start at £200 for paper works, £400-£1500 for oil on canvas.
Prices depend on size and number of sitters and include all the preliminary sketches. Portraits take about 2 – 6 weeks.
