Bea  Denton

Bea Denton is a London-based artist who offers a new perspective on traditional Printmaking. Working with plywood, she produces large format, contemporary woodcuts using a range of power gouges, sanders and dentists drill bits. The work is produced using the reduction method (the same piece of wood is carved and used for printing each colour overlay in turn, the wood being gradually carved away). She produces very limited editions with a maximum of 20 prints in each. Often heavily layered with colour, the images offer a considered yet gestural style. Abstract in style, the new work is largely inspired by the artist's interest in, and inquiry into ideas about faith and religion in a contemporary context. These ideas are reflected in the use of continuing, often tangled lines where the start and end points are lost in the confusion.
Denton graduated from Camberwell College of Arts in 2002 with a MA (distinction) Printmaking. In other areas of her work she has pushed the boundaries of traditional printmaking into installations using glass and stone, using digital information and her own photographic work which she shows as part of the of artists group Six of One.
Denton works from her studio at the artist's cooperative, Creekside Artists in Deptford.
