Robert was born in England and lives and works in Camden. He has a degree in fine art history and his training as an artist included courses at Working Men’s College, Camden, where he was awarded the Lowes Dickinson Art Prize, and the Slade School of Fine Art.
A major focus of his work has been the circus, particularly the people who inhabit that itinerant world, their reflective and, often reclusive, nature contrasting with the vibrant, extrovert, façade they show the world. This has given rise to a range of figurative, surreal and abstract work.
Recently, he has been experimenting with painting on wood sculptures and has produced a varied body of work, including still life, using china ink on canvas.
In recent years he has made several visits to Japan and Thailand which has provided inspiration for both photography and painting. Particularly religious art -Buddhism- temples and sculpture.
Robert has mainly exhibited in group shows in the UK. He has had one-man exhibitions of paintings and photography in New York.
