Born in Brussels in 1950, it is whilst studying Law at university that Michel starts his artistic life, drawing comic strips for the monthly university publication. Eventually, Michel decides to drop out of law school to focus entirely on illustration and caricature, organising his life around his drawings and part time jobs. In 1976 Michel joined an ad agency for which he wrote articles and created humorous drawings and advertisements. He moved to Luxembourg in 1977 where he worked in advertising and serigraphy until he discovered and studies the technique of watercolour. Soon after this Michel started exhibiting his paintings regularly. From 1980, Michel's work was divided between watercolour exhibitions and illustrations. Michel's talents are increasingly required for books, stamps, posters and greeting cards, including contributions to National Educational projects from 1996 to 2002. In 1983 he began to teach watercolour and drawing, until he returned to Brussels in 2009.
Being self-taught,Michel Demart masters watercolour with precision, clarity and complexity. Each of his paintings invites the viewer to embark on a journey, discovering surreal landscapes filled with surprises and enchanting détails.
