Mark is a visual artist whose practice is very much a hybrid one. His practice consists of sculpture, drawing, painting together with short animations.
The work that is produced is to a great extent concerned with many of the precepts of Metamodernism, a rather ambitious term that endeavours to look beyond what Mark himself may describe as the 'black hole of Postmodernism'. Certainly within his practice there is a determined return to reconstruction and a deliberate mixing of ideologies. Indeed there are certain deliberate stylistic appropriations referenced throughout the work that are also intended to question certain notions of purity within art.
Aside from these formal considerations the subject of the work is often rooted in the deeply personal. The works are also intended to question the reliability of personal histories and memory. This is partly suggested in the often odd juxtapositions of elements found within the work and also in the distortions of scale and form.
Graduating in 2012 at Sunderland University with a BA First Class Honours Degree in Fine Art, Mark intends to return to finish his MA at Sunderland whilst simultaneously establishing a working practice.
