These accomplished images, inspired by the variety of texture in geological cliff formations, are sensitively rendered in gouache and watercolour. Sally's unique approach is both representational in that it resembles the subject matter, yet abstract in that it refers to different ways of apprehending the land such as Ordnance Survey contour maps. The chequered effect also brings to mind more scientific visions on graph paper and fossils embedded therein. |
