Iwan Kulik's striking works in gouache have a distinctive colour palette and the hard edges and jutting lines evidence an Expressionist aesthetic. This style befits his concern with current political events, as following the dramatic events of the Euromaidan and in reaction to the annexation of Crimea by Russia, he created a new series of works. George Orwell's prophetic writings on power and the state continue still, to find resonance with contemporary artists.
