DAVID JANE

David is a painter, sculptor and printmaker from London whose work has appeared in a number of galleries, including the Welcome Collection. After an experience of suffering encephalitis which caused a loss of memory and speech, he turned to the scans of his brain for inspiration and to understand how the incident could be communicated and understood.

The works submitted are purely digital in final form but started their life as paintings combining pigment with wax. David then photographs the paintings and works on them digitally, manipulating and layering the images until they become something new. These layered digital paintings create pictures inside pictures, refracting spaces and fading environments, mimicking memory and our imperfect recollections. By Alex Flowers, Digital Programmes Manager. V&A.

Morten Jørgensen

Most of Morten's photographs show landscapes, seascapes, buildings, bridges, and sometimes just people standing, and children in awe of the beauty of the sea against the land. The architectural photographs show Morten's attraction to the beauty of the modern against the strong Norwegian backdrop of sky or sea or mountain, whilst many of the pictures of buildings and details of architectural surfaces actually carry a sensation of icy threat. Morten has a passion for the colour blue, and this is reflected in several of his artworks. By utilizing different shades of light, he gives ordinary, solid structures a completely new appearance. Almost evangelic, with the combination of awe and fear, his works have a quality of stillness we rarely sense, or invite, into our lives.

Ozgur Karababa

Oscar Karababa takes his inspiration from the human form. "I adore the curves and the softness of a women's body and subconsciously they appear in most of my work in one way or another". Oscar's use of digital media allows him to manipulate form in such a way that it creates environments that only hint at their original source. His use of earthy colours combined with a polished and glossy quality generates a feeling of plasticity, stretched and melting - as if we are seeing a millisecond in time.

Rusudan Khizanishvili (gobejishvili )

Rusudan Khizanishvili is a young contemporary artist working in Tbilisi, the Georgian capital. With influences drawn from great artists such as Gauguin and Cezanne, Khizanishvili's work visibly acknowledges the history of painting and the paintings of the great masters. Her confident use of colour, combined with a palpable and often sensuous handling of oil paint demonstrates a maturity beyond her twenty seven years. Rusudan's approach to both the handling of paint and compositional construction reflects a healthy knowledge of what has come before her, while at the same time clearly display a contemporary set of values and codes of practice. Graduating with a painting degree from the Tbilisi state Academy of Art, Rusudan went on to complete an MA in Media in 2005.

Alan King

Alan King's interest in the artists of the Surrealist movement, and his love of architecture, has led him to combine the qualities of computer software and traditional painting techniques to invent bizarre, uncanny environments. Strong, bold, and rich with colour, his digital images are extremely well created. King's technical knowledge and skill combined with his own sense of creativity and talent enables him to freely express what is in his minds eye at the point of creation. This results in some strong, vibrant and vividly surreal landscapes.
